May 2024 Heritage Area Events
May is a busy month as the weather improves and many of our region’s spring and summer attractions begin to open up for the season. Here is a non-exhaustive list of some of the wonderful programming that our heritage sites and local organizations have planned for the next month! Lecture: Oregon’s Early Chinese American History
Thursday, May 2, 2024 from 7 – 8 pm
Location: Museum of the Oregon Territory
“Chinese immigrants and their descendants have lived in Oregon since before statehood. Yet, despite contributing everything from the building of the Willamette Falls Locks to the cultivation of the Bing cherry, their stories are given scant attention. In this presentation, Dr. Jennifer Fang, Director of Interpretation & Community Engagement at the Pittock Mansion, will delve into the history of Oregon’s early Chinese Americans and their often-overlooked contributions.”

“Oregon City Gothic” Art show at Imperfecta Gallery, runs May 11 to June 1

“Artworks, inspired by Oregon City historical figures, events architecture, and folk tales, will be complemented by contemporary photography by Ian Scott Mullen and historical images from our partner, the Clackamas County Historical Society”

Baker Cabin Open House: May 11, 2024 from 11-2
“Open House days continue at Baker cabin in 2024 to share site history with visitors and demonstrate pioneer skills to those who stop in and see the buildings. The original log cabin and the historic Pioneer Church, located in Carver, Ore., will be open with docents on hand to answer questions.”

“Do you own a historic house and you would love to find out more about its history? Do you have some antiques or family heirlooms that you would love to preserve? Or are you simply interested in history, architecture, and preservation? If so, join the Friends of the Ermatinger House and Oregon City Parks & Recreation for two lectures on different aspects of preservation.”

Every First Saturday of the Month from 10 – 2, starting Saturday, May 4, 2024
“Join us at the Oswego Heritage House for fun activities and history every first Saturday of the month! There will be mini-tours, hands-on activities, and snacks for those who drop-by! 20 minute tours begin at 11:00 AM, 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM.”
